Ben Hur – First Release French Grande

£1,995.00

First Release French Grande (46.5″ x 61.5″)
Very Fine- on Linen; Artist Roger Soubie
MGM, 1960

If you’re a fan of this Biblical classic, this gorgeous Roger Soubie image is far preferable to many collectors than the US campaign with Joseph Smith artwork. Recreating the exciting chariot race, this is one for not only Academy Award collectors but eclectic collectors of great film posters.

A sliver of paper was missing in the top center of the border. A tear from the right side of the poster went into the horse’s hooves and a tiny chip in one of the horse’s noses. The poster also has some slight fold wear, but these slight imperfections have been addressed through restoration.

Not the first film to adapt the 1880 novel Ben-Hur: A Tale of the Christ, and by no means the last, but William Wyler’s take on the Biblical yarn is by far the biggest and most successful. With a steely performance from Charlton Heston and an amazing central chariot-race set piece, it won a record 11 Oscars.
