Cat on a Hot Tin Roof (MGM, 1958). One Sheet (27″ X 41″).
Elizabeth Taylor looks extra lovely as Maggie the Cat in this, one of her most famous and renowned roles. Based on the play by Tennessee Williams, this is the story of a dysfunctional Southern family, including sons Brick (Paul Newman) and Gooper (Jack Carson), whose problems are exacerbated by the imminent death of the family patriarch (Burl Ives) and the eventual distribution of his fortune. Taylor’s real-life husband, Mike Todd, had died recently, which allowed her to bring even more depth and understanding to her role. There were two printings of this famous one sheet and this is the better of the two with its darker variegated colors. Prior to professional linen backing, the poster had pinholes in the corners, a small chip from the tip of the “t” in “cat” within the title and a small chip from the upper left corner. There was fold wear which has been beautifully restored. Fine/Very Fine on Linen.
