Always a guy in his own lane, he had hit records in the late 1980s and throughout the 1990s. For this Portland show at the Fox Theatre, he was joined by Stress and touring behind his Mama Said album. This was the era of the singles “Always On the Run,” “It Ain’t Over Til It’s Over,” and “Stand By My Woman.”
