The “Birthday Cake” one-sheet is one of the most coveted posters in the Star Wars franchise, created to commemorate the film’s incredible box office success. The film was initially released in just 32 theaters in May 1977, as many theater owners were skeptical of its potential success. However, after it became a massive hit, Star Wars stayed in theaters for over a year, with some locations screening it continuously until July 1978, a rare achievement for a film at the time. Released as a special promotional item, it also served as a clever cross-promotion for the new line of Kenner action figures, featuring 11 of the 12 original characters from the initial release (only the Jawa is absent). This poster has light handling wear including truly trivial wrinkles and nicks. An exemplary example of this rare and popular poster.
