The Day The Earth Stood Still – UK Quad

£14,995.00

The Day the Earth Stood Still (20th Century Fox, 1951). Folded, Very Fine. British Quad (30″ X 40″).
This striking British quad for 1951’s The Day the Earth Stood Still is one of the most prized collectibles for this title. A major entry into the science fiction craze of the 1950s, it is noted for being equal parts entertaining and serious. Though The Day the Earth Stood Still is not without its set pieces and Atomic Age paranoia, it also presents questions about mankind’s place within the universe, resulting in markedly more politically charged film than what was typical in a ’50s sci-fi film, delivering a prescient message about the dangers of international conflict and the necessity for peace, symbolized by the extraterrestrial visitor, Klaatu, and his robot, Gort. This British original surpasses the U.S. versions with its richly colored stone lithography-a superior, though costly and labor-intensive process that had been almost entirely abandoned in the U.S. by that time. In great condition, the wear is limited to light fold wear, slight creases, small crossfold separation, subtle image ghosting, and very faint toning at parts of the folds.
