Presented here is a collectible 1950 vintage travel poster created for Trans World Airlines (TWA) to advertise flights to Los Angeles. The artwork was designed by commercial illustrator Bob Harmer Smith (also known as Bob Smith) and beautifully captures the romance of early postwar air travel. The composition features a TWA Lockheed Constellation soaring above palm trees and the iconic Old Mission Santa Barbara (founded in 1786), set against a stylized Southern California sky. The imagery reflects the optimism and glamour of the “Golden Age” of aviation. Airbrushing and replacement has been applied along the borders to address chips and the poster presents beautifully, remaining a highly desirable example of classic mid-century airline advertising.
